I just learned about this app indirectly through a blog that I am following called PhotoBotos.com They recently had a post called World’s Cutest Puppy – Larry Marshall – Featured Photographer and btw the puppy is adorable! Wanting to see more of Larry’s work on went on to his pinterest link and saw that he had a board called instagram tips. This is where I learned about the Diptic app.
It is really a neat app for putting several pictures together that tell a story. This is what I came up with. Leadville Colorado Ski Joring Weekend.
Ski Joring Leadville, Colorado
My husband and I got into equestrian ski joring about 8 years ago. For those of you who are wondering what is ski joring I can tell you it is the most exciting sport that I have ever been involved in! I discovered that during the Yuan and Ming dynasties (1271-1644) in China, ski joring behind an animal was first documented. The Norwegian word Skikjoring means skiing behind a horse. As a general term this can mean being pulled by an animal such as a dog, horse or reindeer, as well as a motorcycle, car and yes, even an airplane!
Ski Joring as we know it today has involved into a highly competitive sport consisting of a horse, rider and skier. The team has to navigate a course of jumps, gates and sometimes spear rings all while trying to complete the course without missing any of the obstacles and getting the fastest time.
Leadville, Colorado has been holding ski joring events since 1949. Leadville is an old mining town that gives you the feeling of being in an old west town and at 10,152 feet, it’s the United State’s highest incorporated city. This was our 4th time in Leadville for ski joring and the first time I used my iPhone to take pictures. Camera+ was my go to app for both taking the picture and editing. Because this is a fast action sport it is not easy to capture the horse, rider and skier in the same frame. It took me several attempts and standing on a truck to get this shot.

Whale Tails
This picture was taken while on a road trip to Canada. The whale tails are located off Route 89 near South Burlington, Vermont. I used camera+ to take the picture along with a little bit of editing and then I used perfectly clear. I am still trying to master how to get my pictures to look more like real pictures. I was also very interested to know the story behind the Whale Tales and I found this on the internet.
Whale Tails
The name of the whale tails sculpture is “Reverence” and is meant to symbolize the fragility of the planet — that is, if you think of granite as fragile. It was commissioned in 1988 by a wealthy British metals trader named David Threlkeld, who lived in Randolph at the time. Jim Sardonis sculpted each of the two 13-foot high tails from six tons of black granite. The tails resided in Randolph beginning in 1989 and were to have been placed in front of a motel and conference complex planned by Threlkeld, but financing fell through and Threlkeld split for Arizona. The tails were offered up for sale with a price tag of $100,000. New Bedford, MA was considering it for awhile, and a sale to the Hartford Whalers hockey team seemed possible until the team moved and changed its name, but the tails eventually found their way to their present location beside Rte 89 outside Burlington.
